Discover why you need chemicals in your hot tub and what to use. No-one wants hazardous water-borne bacteria in their hot tub do they? So the best way to keep them at bay is by using hot tub chemicals. Although chlorine is used in swimming pools it is not recommended in a hot water environment, for keeping your water sanitized, as it loses it's bacteria fighting properties at temperatures over 80 degrees. There are chemicals that are specifically designed for use in hot water and have the dual benefit of keeping the water crystal clear. You will need hot tub chemicals that will safely remove any of the following that definitely are, or may be in your hot tub water:* Tanning lotion - do you get in and out of your hot tub between sun bathing or sunbed sessions?* Natural body oils and sweat* If your water supply is hard then calcium and lime deposits will clog up your hot tub with the potential to ruin the pipework and the water pump as well as making the water look dirty much in the same way that they will clog up your washing machine and leave deposits in your kettle* Moving water caused by jets of pressure causes foam to formYou will need to get into a routine of adding hot tub chemicals on a daily basis, checking the water and then adding the chemicals to keep the levels up to the desired rate. If you like your water to be clean and clear, and who doesn't? Then maintaining the pH factor factor of the water will be an essential part of your routine. The hot tubs guidelines suggest that you want an optimal pH level of between 7. 2 and 7. 6. You will find that there are many brand name products to achieve this and their product names will give you a clue as to their function e. g. pH-Plus or pH-minus. Based on the list above you can buy chemicals to deal with each of these events:* Tanning lotions, natural body oils and sweat require water purifiers which will break down the oils and remove them from the water* You can prevent calcium and lime deposits from building up using specialist chemicals, which can also be used to break them down and flush them out of your tub* Lime scum is removed by specialist cleaners which come in paste form* Foam can be prevented using anti-foaming hot tub chemicals or if you need to get rid of foam that has already formed then there are chemicals especially for this too which are fast actingAs you will see it is important to keep your hot tub clean and free from bacteria and other water borne contaminants that will spoil your enjoyment of your hot tub. So keep you and your hot tub healthy with the regular use of hot tub chemicals.

Hot Tubs and hot tub water need to be kept clean and a cleaning regime adhered to otherwise you will find yourself subject to infections caused by hot tub bacterium. In this article you will find information on the most common bacterium found in hot tubs and what you can do about them. A hot tub is usually purchased for relaxation and therapeutic purposes. However, it is necessary to have a regular cleaning schedule otherwise hot tub bacterium can form and far from being relaxing your hot tub will be a source of sickness and skin rashes. Air borne bacteriaA regular cleaning schedule will help you to avoid the hot tub bacterium mycobacterium avium, a member of the bacteria family, which causes tuberculosis. This is not usually contagious, but it has found a pleasant breeding ground in hot tubs. This bacteria is contained in the bubbles produced as a result of the circulating jets in the water and are released into the air, and thus inhaled by people using the hot tub, when the bubbles burst open. The symptoms of infection are difficulty breathing, a wet cough, fatigue and tightness in the chest. Your doctor will advise you to refrain from using the hot tub and will probably prescribe steroids and if the infection is particularly severe, you may need oxygen treatment. Chlorine which is normally used to provide benefit in swimming pools becomes ineffective at a water temperature in excess of 80 degrees and therefore cannot be relied upon to keep your hot tub bacteria free and you will need to use hot tub chemicals LINK insteadSkin rashes from hot tub bacteriumA skin rash known as folliculitis is particularly prevalent when you do not have a rigorous cleaning routine. It is an infection of the hair follicles and a common strain is in fact called hot tub folliculitis. Children tend to be more susceptible to it due to the length of time they tend to spend in the hot tub, however it is not contagious, just uncomfortable. The rash can break out anywhere on the body but is most likely in areas covered by clothing, such as swimsuits. The rash normally appears from a few hours to several days after exposure. These hot tub bacterium cannot survive in a dry atmosphere and will gradually disappear. The rashes can be eased with sulfide creams, vinegar compresses and oral antibiotics. If you do have hot tub bacterium in your tub then you will need to drain it and thoroughly clean and sanitize it before re-use, then establish an effective cleaning routine. Ideally you want to prevent this happening in the first place and the use of hot tub chemicals on a regular basis will ensure your hot tub is bacterium free.

A premier quality American Spa Hot Tub is a major investment in your lifestyle. This is a substantial purchase which might rank third after other substantial purchases like a house or a flat and a motor car. In order to ensure that your investment in a new life style provides many years of reliable service, it is of course essential that you have a regular schedule of simple but well planned maintenance. That way you will get the best value for your money. There are many simple routine actions that you will need to perform, some more often than others. I have set out below a few ideas of routine maintenance that one might consider using as a planning guide for maintaining your very own Jacuzzi style Hot Tub. Daily Water MaintenanceThe routine key to daily maintenance is to keep the water in the Hot Tub in tip-top condition. There are three prime functions which are important for ensuring the water in your Jacuzzi is kept crystal clear. The first action is to carry out a simple check on the sanitizer levels by using Jacuzzi test strips. These test strips are relatively inexpensive and easily available but one must ensure that you use the correct ones for the chemicals that are being used. By using these strips which is very simple you will be able to see if you need to add bromine or the chlorine in the water depending of course on which sanitizer chemical you are using. I personally prefer bromine as a sanitizer for a couple of reasons. One of them which, for me, is the deciding factor is that Hot Tubs are used at a much hotter temperature than Swimming Pools and chlorine whilst ok for Swimming Pools quickly loses its effectiveness at a higher temperature. The second one is that Bromine whilst derived from Chlorine is a much weaker chemical than chlorine but is an equally as good sanitizer. Obviously one has to use the correct test strips you cannot for example use Bromine strips to check Chlorine or Chlorine strips to check Bromine. You can also use more natural products such as Aqua Finesse a more natural water based additive where you add a cup full on a weekly basis but you will need to use some sanitizer for the plumbing and pipes like bromine. How ever you are able to use a smaller amount so the actual chemical use is reduced which is very popular for ethical reasons. Then one needs to regularly check the ph balance of the water in your Jacuzzi. You need to have chemicals that can reduce or increase the ph level basically making the water have a higher acidic level or alkaline so that one can maintain the correct balance. Then has consider that when a hot tub is used regularly it will accumulate, perspiration, natural oils from the body and other material that could mark the water or tide line. Normal routine maintenance should include checking for and cleaning any water line so as to make sure that it does not form a permanent stain. Routine Weekly MaintenanceOn a weekly basis, it is well worth considering adding some anti-foaming agent to your Jacuzzi water. Foaming in a Jacuzzi can be irritating when you are in the Jacuzzi. Cleaning the filter - You should also remove and clean the filter carefully making sure you remove any contamination using a hose pipe or a jet washer set on a low pressure so as not to damage the filter fabric. Obviously regular cleaning of the filter is very important to ensure the Jacuzzi's long-term efficiency and the cleanliness of the water. Finally you need to assess how hard the water is where you reside. If one lives in an area, with hard water, then one should add a chemical which is anti-scaling in order to reduce and stop the build-up of deposits of calcium on the floor and sides of one Jacuzzi. The calcium can build up and form a deposit on the sensors of the Jacuzzi that deal with water flow and temperature, which may create problems later. Monthly Routine MaintenanceIt is also a good idea to add a water sparkle agent which will help to keep your Jacuzzi looking bright and clear. This is not a critical issue in the maintenance of your Hot Tub but of course, the pleasing visual appeal of crystal clear water adds considerably to the experience. Routine Quarterly MaintenanceObviously it depends on how many people use the Hot Tub and how often as to when you will need to fully drain, clean and inspect your Jacuzzi say every three to six months. When you drain the Jacuzzi, it is a very good idea to flush some cold water through the pipes after it has been drained to ensure that all the old and stale water has been drained away. When it is empty, one should give the Jacuzzi a good clean and wipe down. If the Jacuzzi shell is made from Lucite® cast acrylic then these have always been the easiest to clean. These products have taken acrylic surfaces to the next level by incorporating Microban® antimicrobial product protection which inhibits the growth of bacteria. Microban® will not lose its effect over time simply because it is built in the Jacuzzi's surface. Also at this same time, you should thoroughly clean the filter and at the same time inspect the filtration system. This time the filter should not just be hosed down but soaked over night in some special solution designed for cleaning filter. Cover MaintenanceClean the Cover both inside and outside. The vinyl cover should be wiped down using a very mild detergent. Allow the inside to dry out from time to time and wipe down. The Cabinet SidesMost modern Hot Tubs have maintenance free plastic sides and all they need is a wipe down with a damp cloth. Those with real wooden sides should be treated with wood stain or be oiled as appropriate depending on the timber used.

Hot tubs are no doubt a great stress bursting equipments that have become a part of our every day’s life. It is really important to identify every single detail of a tub so that you’ll be able to sort out the problems when they arise and find solutions in less time. If you do not have all the details of your tub, a working knowledge of all the parts will be equally good and beneficial.

A little knowledge of this further helps in maintaining the conditions of the tub so as to make it really useful for a long period of time. Also, if you are going to make an effective purchase, your knowledge will help you to get the most economical and the most useful hot tub spa for your home purpose.

Hot Tub or Spa Part

One of the main parts of any hot tub is its jets, which allows water to freely move in and out of the tub. This freely moving water in the tub facilitates effective massage parts of your body like your feet or your back. Also, the price of a tub increases with inclusion of the number of its jets. So, be careful, decide carefully and buy conveniently.

Second most important to consider in an exercise pool is its shell or the inner surface. Usually thermoplastic or fiberglass is available in tubs to give the best benefits of the warm water. Nowadays, shell comes in different colors and designs.

Third is the cabinet of the hot tub that goes around it and is used for storage of some of the equipment that runs it. The cabinet is usually made of different manmade materials depending on the kind of hot tub that you have.

Next is the seat of the hot tub. You can consult your hot tub dealer if he can guide you to get the best one.

Furthermore, you can check about the cover of the tub to get the best benefits.

By taking care of the above mentioned hot tub essentials, you would be able to buy a really useful tub in most affordable range.

I have asked this question twice without getting a good answer so far-I am considering buying a spa/hot tub. I do not want to spend too much money to buy one.
There are so many different styles of spa/hot tubs. What are things that I am looking for in a quality spa/hot tub? I am concern about spending a lot of money for one that may lead to major repairs in near future.
Also-can someone explain to me what to look for in spa/hot tub to avoid dry rot and not to have the pumps & motor go bad.
How much horsepower is good to have to be considered a good buy?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. . . .

What with there being so many different Jacuzzi Hot Tub manufacturers in the marketplace today. It is a very good idea to find a manufacturer who has been in business for many decades - probably since the time that portable spas first came onto the marketplace as that will eliminate many pitfalls that can occur with newer companies.
Here a few questions and answers to consider when evaluating the selection of a Hot Tub.
Can a Hot Tub be installed inside or outside?
Hot Tub Jacuzzi can be installed indoors or outdoors, although many spas in the world are installed outdoors. Most modern Hot Tub makers provide models that will fit through European standard doorways. Many spa owners choose to locate the spa on a deck or perhaps a terrace. For an easy solution to privacy, comfort and visual appeal, a gazebo may be just the thing you need to provide a complete and easy solution to weather, comfort and privacy concerns.
Is plumbing necessary, is the installation complicated?
No as all Hot Tubs are easily filled from the top using a garden hose. The only thing required is the electrical connection. Modern portable Hot Tubs contain all the key features such as plumbing and pumps. They are to all intents and purposes self-contained and all modern Hot Tubs now come complete with a high standard insulating cover.
How often do I need to change the water?
A modern Hot Tub will be equipped with an easy access top-loading filter. Avoid the lower priced front-loaded type that causes you to drag the dirty filter through the clean spa water every time you want to clean it. An integrated chemical dispenser avoids the problem of the less effective "floating chemical dispensers" and provides a simple and adjustable method of sanitizing Hot Tub water automatically. It is recommended that the spa water be changed 3-4 times per year. A dedicated drain fitting integrated into the spa cabinet provides easy access for garden hose hookup to drain the spa without having to unscrew side panels or open up the spa interior.
How is the temperature controlled?
Modern quality Hot Tubs will employ digital thermostatic controls. Temperatures can safely be maintained to the nearest degree and readouts can be in Fahrenheit or in Celsius for the European market. Modern Hot Tubs will have built in freeze and overheat protection to make owning a spa effortless. Balboa is the leading manufacturer of this type of Hot Tub control. It is much better to utilize a high end 3. 0 kW or 2. 5 kW heater instead of the lower priced 1. 5 or 2kW heaters as this makes sure that energy is efficiently used and heating time can be significantly reduced.
What about insulation?
Quality manufacturers consider the long term of spa ownership when designing spas. Manufacturers that use advanced manufacturing methods, which employ ABS-backed acrylic instead of older style fiberglass, are able to provide a sturdier, longer lasting product. Not only is the manufacturing process that does not use fiberglass more environmentally friendly, but the stronger more expensive ABS backed shell material allows for elimination of foam shell support. There are many manufacturers who use the lower priced standard Acrylic that must be supported with fiberglass and foam. The foam is referred to as insulation, but actually supports this lower priced shell material. There are many disadvantages with spraying low cost expanding foam into the spa cabinet including lack of access to important plumbing parts and jet surfaces as well as the ability to quickly check for and fix a leak should it occur. Very often, a leak in a foam-filled Hot Tub will manifest itself over a long time period some times many months and the result is a rotted out interior with odorous, soaked foam material that creates a very big mess. It does not in my view represent a "clean" approach to long lasting maintenance, but is necessary for the support of lower priced shell materials. You also see some with a mild steel frame and again the shell is poor quality and needs the support of the steel frame.
As with most things, it is good advice to buy from a well-established manufacturer who has had many decades of experience.
The most important think to lookout for when buying a Jacuzzi is Quality.

Hot tubs are great for for the entire family. They provide the near perfect environment needed to get away from the outside world and leave it behind - even if only temporarily. But a hot tub can be potentially dangerous as well. Here are some of the dangers and risks that it's best to be aware of.

Long Hair and Hot Tubs

In the last decade and a half over 750 deaths have taken place in hot tubs. Of these, a fair amount have been caused by drowning - adults and children.

Among children one of the main causes drownings is due to a child's hair being sucked into the hot tub's drain cover fittings. When a child with long hair puts his or her head under water, it is possible for their hair to get entangled with the suction drain cover fitting. In many hot tubs, the suction drain cover fitting is on the floor of the hot tub. In the worst case scenario the child's head is pulled beneath the water and before he can disentangle himself, he suffocates. The problem is mainly caused by the placement of these hot tub drain cover fittings. The correct placement of these fitting should be on the wall. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has worked with manufacturers to recall these suction drain cover fittings. Nevertheless, many hot tubs still maintain these older style drain cover fittings.

If your child has long hair, an additional safety precaution is to have your child wear a bathing cap to reduce the risk of hair entanglement.

Alcohol and Hot Tubs

The combination of heat and alcohol can lead to catastrophes. Modern hot tubs can be heated to a maximum of 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat expands the blood vessels and increases the body's temperature. Alcohol also expands the blood vessels and increases the body's temperature. The combination may be too much for your body to take, raising your temperature to so high that it results in a stroke or heart attack.

An additional danger of alcohol, or course, is that excess drinking can cause drowsiness or even worse a blackout or unconsciousness in which state you can very easily drown For safety's sake, it's best not to drink while in a hot tub.

Prescription Medication and Hot Tubs

Many of the most popular medications cause drowsiness. Aspirin, barbiturates, certain anti-depressants, tranquilizers, many antihistamines, certain cold medications , allergy medications, and many others can be potentially dangerous if they're in your system when you use your hot tub.

Pregnancy and Hot Tubs

If you think you heard that women who are pregnant should not use hot tubs, you're right. This is especially true if the woman is in the first three months of pregnancy where the fetus is at its most vulnerable. If a woman immerses herself in t hot tub with temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, she is potentially increasing the likelihood of a miscarriage.

Vascular Diseases and Hot Tubs

If you have hypertension or any blood vessel problems it may be unsafe for you to use a hot tub due to the effect that immersing the body in heated water has on the blood vessels. To be safe, talk to your physician if you have any type of vascular disease before you use a hot tub.

Hot tubs are a great means of relaxation and many families get years of enjoyment from them. Just be sure to take commen sense safety precautions when using them.

The design of the latest Hot Tubs and Jacuzzi style spas continues to evolve at quite a pace with manufacturers introducing more and more features and ideas in order to catch the public's imagination.
For example having a massage sequencer in your Hot Tub Jacuzzi will allow you to be able to control the placement of Jet Patterns, and their speed so that you can easily pinpoint the area of your body to massage. These massage systems can provide a stair step massage not unlike having your very own personal masseuse to direct which muscles and tendons to massage.
This type of feature is often known as a wave massage system and a seat, which has this feature, is designed to give a full massage to the shoulders, full back, thighs, calves and feet. This lounger seat will usually have many Jets often in excess of some fifty Jets to provide a pulsating wave massage which works its way down your body at one to two rows at a time moving from ones neck right down to ones toes. This lounger seat will probably have something like seven function programmable controls, which will provide seven massage patterns at various variable speeds over your body.
1. Do you want to use your spa just for hydrotherapy and hydro massage and to help relieve the stress and strain of life and provide that much needed solace or do you want to use it for fun and relaxation with your family or is it a combination of these two,
2. When you use the Hot Tub for the majority of the time, how many people will use it, for example, is it just for two or perhaps five to six or more? Obviously, this is a key question in deciding the model that you choose.
3. Will you entertain your friends and family and have guests round to enjoy and share use the spa and if you will, what is the maximum number you will have in your spa at one time?
4. What is the average size and height of the people who will use the Hot Tub are there big differences in height between the shortest and the tallest?
5. How often will the Hot Tub be used perhaps twice a day or just once every day or just two to three times a week?
6. What time during the day or evening will the Hot Tub be used. This will possibly be very different at a weekend or holiday season. ?
7. What approximate budget do you have and here it is good to have a price range so that you can consider a choice of two or three models. Remember of course that it is not just the purchasing the Hot Tub but there is also the cost of delivery and having it installed.
8. How much are you prepared to allow for actually running your spa on a weekly basis after it has been installed? You will need to allow for electricity for the pumps and heater but also there will be some spending on water treatment chemicals and that kind of thing,
9. How much time are you prepared to spend looking after the Hot Tub and keeping the water balance maintained correctly?
10. How much physical space do you have available for the Spa? Bear in mind that you will need to get access for servicing or maintenance.
11. What is the access like to get and place a Hot Tub in your chosen location?
12. Is there good and clear access to all sides of the Hot Tub at your intended position or will some sides be inaccessible, (next to a wall etc. ) or will you wish to sink the Hot Tub into a decked area.
13. If you wish to place the Hot Tub on a roof terrace you need to consider as to whether the terrace is able to take the weight of a filled Jacuzzi and say four adults.
14. Is a crane needed to install the Hot Tub Jacuzzi perhaps on a roof terrace or over a house to get access to the back garden?
